Wendy Mae (nee Bowman) Duerr, mother of two, grandmother of three, died on Sept. 9 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, after a long and private battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.
Wendy was a native of Fort Erie, Ont. and a graduate of Mohawk College in Hamilton. Following her graduation, she worked for General Motors in Buffalo.
Her family quickly became her life. She loved and sacrificed for her children and adored her grandchildren - who were the light of her later years.
Along with enjoying many summers at Waverly Beach in Fort Erie, Wendy loved to travel. She enjoyed cruising and exploring countries around the world, which enhanced her love of history - specifically stories from World War II, tales from the Titanic and anecdotes from the British Royal Family.
Wendy was also well known for her acerbic wit, ability to make friends through laughter, love of fashion and art, and pride in her Canadian heritage.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 43 years, John, her daughter Jennifer Harnick, son-in-law Michael, granddaughter Evelyn, son Tom, daughter-in-law Anna, grandsons Brady and Tanner, sister-in-law Dianne M. and brother-in-law Richard J. as well as nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home at 1671 Maple Rd. in Williamsville. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be sent to UNYTS 110 Broadway, Buffalo NY 14203. www.denglerrobertspernafuneral.com.
